Today is Saturday but allow me once again to rewind. Wednesday 28 Feb we disembarked from the ship for the last time. The crew on the Volendam were marvelous, we met some terrific people from Canada, Britain, Australia and experienced a variety of cultures. Other ship impressions: B & I learned how to play pickle ball and may have discovered a new sport for our twilight years; the french fries by the pool were the BEST ever and B said he did NOT want to know how they fixed them because they were addictive; my trivia team never won during the Indonesia part of the journey; Holland America Lines is still good but may not be our first choice for cruising anymore due to them intending "not to be adult summer camp" anymore according to the Cruise Director. For the first time ever I was ready to get off the ship after only 28 days. I guess it was because I was looking forward to exploring Malaysia and Thailand. So begins the 2nd leg of the journey - no photos on this one, since I have probably picture you out...lol!
After leaving the ship, we were met by a driver from the Double Tree Hotel. An hour and a half later we left Singapore and entered Malaysia , Johor Bahru or JB to be precise. My nails were in desperate need of attention, and the hotel said only spa nearby was in a mall. So we walked about 15 minutes all the while looking for a place to eat. There was a food court in the mall and B's eyes lit up at McDonald's and KFC, but I refused to have my first meal in Malaysia be "fast food". We ended up at a small eatery and both had teriyaki chicken - it was filling if not terrific. Then we finally found the nail place but they were too busy to take me, so we trekked back to the hotel. Our next meal was hours later at the buffet in hotel. OMG! it was AMAZING! It was huge and had a variety of stations with Chefs that cooked food like pho, personal fish dishes, satay, Chinese noodles, seafood stew as well as a variety of buffet dishes by country. I tried the Malaysian, Chinese, Japanese and Indonesian - but not the Indian. B mostly had Chinese but tasted a few of my sauces. The young chef said he would fix a fish that was savory but not spicy - it was yummy... The deserts were gorgeous to look at and almost as tasty. I tired the Mandarin sorbet and it was sweet and fruity, only thing missing was the juice...lol I think B would agree with me it was just about the best food we'd had so far, including the ship. My only regret is that I didn't take photos, so you would understand just how special it was. AND it was only $45 for both of us - better than any buffet in Vegas.
The next day we would take the train all the way to Kuala Lumpur. Have a great day today and a better one tomorrow.
I don't think any of us "on this end" are pictured-out. But great narrative, none the less!
