Wat Pho Temple

Went to Wat Pho temple yesterday.  Here are the photos - I will add narration and captions later so check back.  Unfortunately B is still feeling puny, so I went to see temples on my own.  The hotel arranged for a cab to take me to Wat Pho and explained how to get back by ferry boat.  I am so proud of myself for managing an outing and returning to the hotel without a glitch.  I took the taxi - 100 baht, walked around the temple grounds for  a couple of hours - 100 baht; found my way walking about 5 blocks to the ferry; got on the ferry that just crossed the river to Wat Arun - 4 bht; and walked thru Wat Arun grounds to get on the orange ferry boat for a ride down river to Sahtorn (Central) pier - 50 bht; and finally a tuk-tuk back to hotel - 90 bht (the Thai baht is 30 to the dollar) Total 344 baht - about $10.   Although Bangkok is a big city, it has a homey feel to it.  I feel very comfortable strolling the streets with or without Brian.  The people are really friendly and like Americans - but they usually want to talk about Obama or Trump - lol!  It's funny that they know who governs America but I couldn't tell you about Thai government...lol
Wat Pho is a must see temple in Bangkok and I am surprised we have not been before.  It was built in the 17th century and covers about 22 acres, including headquarters for teaching and preserving Thai medicine and the original place Thai massage began.  It was quite hot, about 90* and humid - think Florida, but not crowded.  I like my photos without people in them and mostly managed that.  I had a great day and hope you enjoy the pics.

the entrance to Wat Pho

lots of little garden areas with sculptures invite you to sit in the shade

I think this lady and her outfit are adorable - just had to share...  Ginny, she reminds me of the lady we enjoyed in Seattle

this lady is pretty cute too! lol

Budha in lotus position

kitty in napping position lol!

very peaceful here - the orange are koi

koi fish swimming

the lines and color of the scaffolding contrast interestingly with the roofs

This is the reclining Buddha's head - you must take your shoes off when entering the temple and it takes about 10 minutes to walk around the whole of Budha.

Hard to photograph, but this might show you the perspective.  He is 50 feet tall & 150 feet long, so large it feels like it has been squeezed into the building.

the ferry to Wat Pho from Wat Arun

Wat Arun - another temple grounds.  If you go back to night cruise you will see photos of this at night.

It was Sunday afternoon on Silom road near our hotel and pretty quiet compared to the busy work week.  However if you wanted fresh coconut juice, just stop this truck as it drives by.

Also look closely at these newspaper stands - it seems our local paper is being sold in Bangkok lol!
